Salem Lake Park, in Winston-Salem, offers miles of trails through woods, with a 365-acre lake being the main attraction.
I traveled down a path that I had never taken before, named "The Gorge", which meandered beside a nice stream. It was beautiful and at times I forgot that I was even in Winston-Salem. The surrounding environment reminded me of the mountains, with huge boulders planted beside the stream beckoning for you to take a break on and cliffs created by the rushing water that exposed layers and layers of rock and history. And at one point, with the kudzu taking over fields and massive trees, I felt as if I was transported in the world of The Wizard of Oz and I was following the yellow brick road. The colors and the golden sun radiating between the leaves gave me a serene and surreal feeling. Comments are closed.
