I'm no chef but I do know my way around a blender, so I especially love to make my baby girl her baby food! Today I had a lot of fun puree-ing some zucchini, carrots, corn & peaches for her and as I was spooning them into the ice cube trays I noticed how picture-esque the bright veggies and fruit looked in the star trays. **click images to enlarge As I was snapping away, the peach pits and some garlic caught my eye.. I love when such seemingly mundane occasions turn into impromptu photoshoots! Those are usually the most fun.
I love love love taking pictures of children! I like to get down on their level and in their environment and capture their essence. Thank goodness I have so any adorable nieces and nephews and I definitely take advantage of their cuteness and take pictures of them whenever I can.
Here are a few of my favorites from a few days ago when I got the chance to hang out with a few of them. Miles, the handsome fellow in the first picture, is 7 months old, Elizabeth, in the second picture, is almost 6 years old and Marilyn (Elizabeth's sister) in the last picture is nearly 2. I know one day, they will have the voice and attitude to not cooperate for my impromptu photoshoots..Liz was already the hardest to wrangle for this one surprisingly!..but until then, I will continue snapping away. The obvious first choice for my camera excursion was dowtown Winston-Salem. I have always loved the old Tobacco warehouses, they have such a sense of intrique, history and ominous presence. I wonder what they were like in their hay-day, all the hustle and bustle that must have surrounded them and the excitement. And now they sit there, waiting to be turned into Condos or for a fire to burn them down. Does anyone else remember the fire that ravaged downtown in 1998? It tore apart 2 blocks of empty RJR Tobacco warehouse and the smoke could be seen for up to 10 miles away. And then, of course, I had to have the obligatory cloud photograph. I feel as though no photo exploration is complete without one. If you like pictures of clouds, you should check out Alfred Stieglitz "Equivalents." **click images to enlarge
In an effort to keep up with the times and always have my camera in hand, here is my new blog. Let me first start by introducing myself.
I grew up in Winston-Salem, NC and attended Randolph Community College in Asheboro, NC, acheiving my Associates in Commercial Photography. I moved to Brooklyn, NY where I interned with 2 Photographers in NYC. The Big Apple is where I met and fell in love with my husband and after my love-affair with the City, we moved out to Long Island, where it was much more my pace (a Carolina girl at heart). I worked with a Wedding Photographer out on the East End. After living in New York for 6 years, we decided that it was time to make North Carolina our home and we have recently moved back to the area. I am very excited to be back, it is so much different from when I lived here 10 years ago. Winston-Salem is a beautiful and eccletic mix of old tobacco warehouses, new buildings, and green parks. One of my favorite parts of Winston-Salem is when you are driving down Business I40 West and have the beautiful Downtown Winston-Salem directly to the right of you, a wonderful mix of old and new buildings and warehouses, then-bam-the new stadium. So with being back here in my hometown, I am ready to embark on my mission of always keeping my camera on hand (which is ofcourse extremely important when you are a Photographer..but I have understandably gotten a little side-tracked with the birth of my baby girl in February) and capturing all the little things that I overlooked when I grew up here. I am excited about cotinually discovering little things in this big-little city through my lens and my imagination. Here is the beginning of me facing my fears of technology(being the ever-ominous Blog which I have avoided started for so long) and keeping a semi-daily record of what's going on in this world of mine and yours. |
